Lisbon to welcome first ME by Meliá hotel
Meliá Hotels International will be opening its first hotel in Lisbon in 2024, which will sit within the ME by Meliá portfolio.
ME Lisbon – owned by the Discovery Portugal Real Estate Fund – will be located in downtown Lisbon, alongside the Eduardo VII Park and Marquês de Pombal Square. Already under construction, the hotel has been designed by Portuguese architect João Paciência to feature a striking semi-transparent glass façade.
Interior design of the 213-room property is by Broadway Malyan, inspired by the idea of an “unexpected” Lisbon with a fresh style that is influenced by some of the city’s key attractions, like the arches and trees on the Avenida da Liberdade.
The hotel’s design will also employ sustainable technology to minimise its environmental footprint – the heat generated by the cooling systems, for example, will be used as a source of energy for the hot water boilers.
The hotel will comprise an à la carte restaurant and a choice of international cuisine available throughout the day, together with the Radio Rooftop Bar; a new meeting point for locals and visitors which will offer panoramic city views.
As for health and wellness, a gym, spa and health club will include an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath and massage cabins. For those after a more business-minded trip, 600m² of meeting and event space will be spread across 11 adaptable rooms.
In addition to ME Lisbon, the ME by Meliá brand will open at least three more hotels in 2023 and 2024 in Malaga, Malta and Guadalajara. Lisbon is already home to two Meliá hotels, while the opening of ME Lisbon will be accompanied by the launch of the city’s first INNSiDE by Meliá hotel in 2024.
