Lasvit creates Sky Building installation

Lasvit and Rockwell Group have collaborated to create a glass art installation for The Monian Group’s Sky Building development in New York City.

Combining traditional bohemian glass making techniques with innovative design and technology, the light and design experience titled Gravity sits in the lobby of the 71-storey tower. Created by Lasvit’s in-house designer Ludmila Zilkovam the piece weighs approximately 1543lbs and stands at a height of 8ft. Composed of numerous glass cells, sorted and linked to create a unified structure, the piece is crafted to appear as if it were weighted by the force of its title.

Zilkova comments: “Most stories begin with the desire to create something familiar, omnipresent and indispensable, and Gravity is inspired and influenced by one of these forces.”

The impact of the lighting installation is emphasised by the art that surrounds it, with two Infinity Net paintings by Yavoi Kusama chosen by Joseph Moinian to complement the central Lasvit piece. The Sky Building was designed by Rockwell Group and developed by The Moinian Group, and is located at the intersection of Hell’s Kitchen and Hudson Yards, in close proximity to West Chelsea’s art galleries and restaurants, the High Line, and Hudson River Park.
