The Swan, Newby Bridge, has secured a £7 million investment backed by CBRE Global Investors, which will transform the boutique Lake District hotel into a luxury spa resort by summer 2021.
Plans for the new development include the addition of a hydrotherapy pool, thermal rooms, relaxation areas and treatment rooms. The spa will also house an adults only café serving champagne, cake and other refreshments, with the existing swimming pool remaining open and family-friendly.
Elsewhere, a new building will house 30 guestrooms designed by Johnstone Park Interiors, each of which will preserve the character of the converted 17th-century coaching inn while introducing modern touches.
“The Swan is an established favourite in the Lakes, this investment really gives us the opportunity to build on its success so it can reach its full potential as a world-class spa resort,” says James Houlston, Managing Director of BH Group. “The proposed extension will really take the hotel to the next level, so that we can deliver that ultimate top class, luxury experience.”
Sarah Gibbs, Managing Director of The Swan, comments: “We can’t wait for the renovations to get under way, we have some incredible plans and I think guests are going to be blown away when we get to reveal it all next year. The Lake District is already one of the most popular destinations in the UK and there’s definitely a growing market for a luxury spa resort here, and we’re more than happy to be the ones that can offer this! We have a fantastic team here and we are excited to grow it alongside these developments.”
The development will provide 20 full-time and part-time jobs, as well as an apprenticeship programme.
