Kasiiya Papagayo arrives in Costa Rica
Kasiiya Papagayo, an ecological resort designed by architecture agency AW², has opened in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle. Located in 123 hectares of wilderness, the property aims to blend peacefully into its natural surroundings and leave no scars on the landscape.
Each of its 20 lodges are built from mostly natural materials on wood-framed platforms, and can be accessed by a private road. Inside, delicate wooden beams strengthen a connection with nature and enhance wellbeing for guests. Meanwhile, common spaces act as relaxation areas that allow travellers to socialise, and are located in varying positions throughout the landscape to create individual experiences.
“The design and construction of Kasiiya Papagayo has been completed without cutting down a single tree or using concrete for the buildings,” say Reda Amalou and Stéphanie Ledoux of AW². “The resort is 100% solar powered, the water is fresh from the well, and all vehicles within the property are electrical. We are delighted to be able to say that we have built the property respectfully, whilst at the same time to the highest standards of comfort and peace.”
