Tokyo-based studio Curiosity has revealed details of its spa design at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, set to open in London in early 2024.
Similar to its scheme for the hotel’s public spaces, Curiosity has based the subterranean spa concept on ‘a hub of nature and art’, resulting in a stylish wellness space that draws on the greenery of Hanover Square.
Guests are welcomed by a sculptural green Ming marble reception desk and an earthy palette of natural materials – wood, stone and warm bronze – with candle-like lighting that creates a sense of serenity beneath the bustling streets of London.
Amongst the spa’s facilities are a 25m heated swimming pool, sauna, vitality pools, experience showers and steam rooms, along with a gym and an array of bespoke wellness treatments centred around science and sustainability.
Said treatments are delivered using products from brands like Swiss Perfection, Seed to Skin Tuscany and CBD-infused Oto. Two experiences exclusive to the spa meanwhile have been inspired by the local surroundings – a four-handed Tranquility of Mayfair massage therapy and a signature Elegance of Mayfair facial.
Mandarin Oriental’s Asian heritage will also be reflected through the group’s signature Oriental Qi ritual, which works on the energy of the meridiens’ using the benefits of essential oils from Mandarin Oriental’s bespoke range created exclusively by Aromatherapy Associates.
Traditional therapist-led treatments combined with binaural acoustic and dynamic stimulation designed to synchronise with brain waves and induce a meditative, relaxed state will be offered too. New to London, these biohacking treatments are available as short 22-minute sessions including stress release, mindfulness, power nap and awaken. Other treatments include NAD+ vitamin boosting IV infusions, designed to alleviate symptoms such as jetlag or hangovers as well as offering immune support.
In addition to the treatments and therapies offered at the spa, the hotel has also given careful consideration to the overarching wellness concepts that will be embedded within the guest experience. These include a partnership with Bodyspace, who will provide a suite of hyper-personalised lifestyle performance services. With a focus on improving longevity and quality of life, Bodyspace brings together a network of leading practitioners in fitness, nutrition, health technologies, science and medical wellness to deliver its lifestyle performance programmes.
Concepts by Bodyspace include personal training, the only commercial grade, digitally connected Pilates Reformer with a library of 100+ on-demand workouts, a multi-function fitness centre, swimming and fitness assessments, nutritional consultations, physiotherapy and compression therapy by NormaTec, technology used by elite athletes to improve recovery and performance.
Once open, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will comprise 50 guestrooms and 77 private residences, as well as the first restaurants in the UK by award-winning chef Akira Back.
