Inside the newly transformed Waldorf Astoria New York
Waldorf Astoria New York is gearing up to reopen its doors in Spring 2025, following a multi-year restoration project.
The transformation of the 375-room property has been led by architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and interior design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR).
Reimagined guestrooms and suites – the majority exceeding 570ft² – blend modern comforts with subtle Art Deco accents, a nod to the hotel’s heritage.
Additional amenities across the property include a 30,000ft² spa, fitness and centre and relaxed outdoor terrace. F&B venues meanwhile – designed by Avroko – will include a signature restaurant, helmed by Michael Anthony, and Peacock Alley, the lounge and bar synonymous with the Waldorf Astoria brand.
With 43,000ft² of event space, Waldorf Astoria New York is set to reclaim its position as a pillar of New York City society. The heritage spaces, including the Grand Ballroom, Jade Room, Astor Salon, Basildon Room and Silver Corridor, are all being restored to elevate the original Art Deco detailing, while modernising them for the future.
“Waldorf Astoria New York has always been the place to be in New York City and whether you are a visitor or a New Yorker, we know so many around the globe have their own fond stories with our hotel,” says Luigi Romaniello, Managing Director of the hotel. “Visitors returning to the property will notice many of the historical elements, from the Grand Ballroom to the lobby with the famous Waldorf Astoria clock, have been restored to bring back the original grandeur, while thoughtful enhancements were incorporated for today’s traveler. We look forward to lifting the curtain on Waldorf Astoria New York as it makes its grand reveal back to our beloved city and welcoming the world to create new memories at this iconic hotel.”
Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and Global Head, Hilton Luxury Brands, adds: “The reopening of Waldorf Astoria New York is more than a milestone – it marks the beginning of a bold new era for our brand. For over a century, this legendary hotel has defined glamour and sophistication, and now it will serve as the flagship of a reimagined Waldorf Astoria. We’re thrilled to welcome guests back to this famed address, where timeless elegance meets modern luxury. This moment also sets the stage for other highly anticipated openings, including Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique, Waldorf Astoria Osaka, Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch and more as we continue to redefine luxury across the globe.”
