Brummell’s Maison Brummell Majorelle is an eight-room property located in Marrakech, next to Yves Saint Laurent’s famous Jardin Majorelle. Under the guidance of New Zealand architect Bergendy Cooke and Marrakech architectural team Amine Abouraoui, the site has been built and completed from scratch, in a process led by Austrian hotelier Christian Schallert.
Three years in the making, the newly opened Maison Brummell Majorelle sees a modern aesthetic come to life, complemented by design classics like Egon Eierman chairs and Ingo Maurer’s paper lamp. Terrazzo stone floors made on-site are paired with the likes of Moroccan artisan traditional tadelakt material, while all guestrooms are also equipped with handcrafted wood and brass furniture from local producer Maison Nicole, suspension lamps by the Italian Vesoi, taps by Italian brand Neve and Gio Ponti ́s Lama door handles. Meanwhile, local artisans were responsible for transforming Bergendy Cooke’́s designs of brass lamps and tables, wooden bed bases and bedside tables into reality.
The house is filled with art by different artists, including Barcelona photographer Maite Carames and Swedish artist Per Henrik Adolfsson. In the lobby is a large painting by Soufiane Zarib, while guestrooms are home to textile art created in collaboration with LRNCE and Marrakshi Life.
At ground level in the property is a custom-built, classic Moroccan-style kitchen, which serves up dishes in the hotel’s dining room, while further down the hall is another living space, boasting a fireplace and various modular sofas.
Maison Brummell Majorelle houses its own hammam, which includes a massage room, steam bath and heated plunge pool – envisioned as the ideal space in which to unwind from the bustle of the city.
