Inside Eriro, a nine-room hideaway in the Austrian mountains

Eriro has opened its doors in Ehrwald, Austria, at the foot of the Zugspitze mountain range.

Conceptualised by hoteliers Amelie and Dominik Posch, alongside Christina and Martin Spielmann, and crafted by timber construction expert Andreas Mader, the property offers a reimagined take on Alpine luxury.

The nine-bedroom hotel, accessible only by cable-car, can be found at an elevation of 1,550m. A minimalist, sustainable approach to Alpine architecture blends harmoniously with the surrounding mountain range, with architect Martin Gruber utilising locally-sourced, organic materials such as stone and wood from local forests – 90% of the building is constructed from wood, and 95% of that wood sourced from the forest within which the hotel is located. Gruber’s nature-inspired colour palette features greys, greens and browns, while floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light.

The property’s spa finds home in its basement, among untamed rocks, forests and meadows. The space features an array of amenities, including a meditation pool and spruce needle sauna.

A zero-waste restaurant meanwhile, helmed by Head Chef David Franken, offers up a Tyrolean-inspired menu, where dishes reflect the changing of the seasons.

“Growing up in this region, we have been inspired by Tyrolean culture and want to share this attitude toward life that we stand by,” say Amelie and Dominik Posch. “We’ve meticulously crafted every detail of Eriro to foster harmony with nature, from the locally sourced materials used in our sustainable architecture to the traditional practices woven into our signature experiences. We believe in the power of these beginnings and moments of reconnection.”
