Ina Rinderknecht unveils redesigned Hotel Ambassador suites
Zurich’s Hotel Ambassador has unveiled its renovated interiors, courtesy of Ina Rinderknecht. The designer has led the redesign of the hotel’s bedrooms, bathrooms, lobby, restaurant and bar, transforming the property into a unique boutique hotel that exudes the cosmopolitan spirit of Zurich.
New interiors are inspired by styles from the turn of the century – specifically, an interpretation of an early 21st century traveller’s lifestyle. Opting for a blend of avant-garde design and classical elements, Ina Rinderknecht has combined precious materials, such as marble and bronze, with bespoke furniture and custom lighting to create an interior with understated elegance.
Wood panelling and careful craftsmanship are fused with a warm colour palette, defined by luxurious textiles and subtle accents. A combination of functional and decorative lighting, custom-made by Rinderknecht, enhances the warm colours of the space. Luxury curtains, wallpaper, upholstery fabrics and decorative pillows compliment more traditional accents like herringbone oak parquet. Sharp attention to detail sees a folding screen repurposed as a backdrop to the upholstered headboard, with side panels hand-etched with tropical leaves to create a sophisticated symmetry. An open wardrobe, meanwhile, has been designed to resemble the style of antique travel trunks.
Furniture has been designed with a modern approach: an armchair adds depth, while the desk and nightstands, created by Rinderknecht, illustrate the colonial influences that run through the room. The wickerwork mini bar, custom designed by Ina Rinderknecht’s studio, houses local gin from Zurich and an eclectic selection of books.
In the bathroom, soft green tones combine with a subtle beige, inspired by the original mosaic floors found during construction. A marble-topped vanity designed by Rinderknecht and her team ties together the aesthetics of the bathroom with the bedroom. White glazed tiles, adorned with a decorative band of art nouveau tiles, finish off the bathroom’s surfaces.
The new designs form part of a longer renovation at Hotel Ambassador, which is set to be completed in 2023. A neo-baroque “castle-style” building that was constructed in 1898, further renovations are set to bring a new outdoor area and restaurant to the property.
