InterContinental Hotels Group has signed its first luxury hotel in Mallorca, under the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand.

Slated to open in 2022, Kimpton Mallorca will further expand the brand’s presence in Spain, following the launch of Kimpton Vividora Hotel in Barcelona earlier this year.

Located next to the Santa Ponsa Golf course, the site of the 79-key luxury boutique hotel will undergo a major refurbishment and extension to bring Kimpton’s design to life. Kimpton Mallorca will bring the brand’s distinctly laid-back approach to luxury to the island as a perfect complement to Mallorca’s relaxed but chic styling and hospitality.

The hotel will feature two outdoor pools – one of which will offer direct access to the beach – an indoor pool, tennis courts, a yoga studio, a spa with 16 treatment rooms and 300m2 of multi-functional meeting space.

Karin Sheppard, SVP, Managing Director, Europe at IHG says: “We all know that 2020 has been a year of missed holidays and, as soon as people are able to travel again, they will be looking for experiences steeped in meaningful human connection and in destinations rich in culture and natural beauty; both of which will be abundant at Kimpton Mallorca.”

She adds: “With this signing we are expanding our offering to the luxury traveller and adding to our strong pipeline of luxury hotels and resorts in Europe over the next few years.”

Following the recents announcements of Six Senses Rome, Six Senses Antognolla and InterContinental Rome, Kimpton Mallorca is the latest addition to IHG’s growing luxury portfolio in Europe. IHG has 44 luxury hotels in Europe, with another 17 luxury hotels in the pipeline to open in the next three to five years.

“We already have a strong presence in both the mainstream and upscale segments and are now delighted to be expanding our presence in the luxury space, too,” says Sheppard. “This signing once again shows the strength of our brands and the confidence that owners and investors have in IHG.”

Founded in 1981 in San Francisco by Bill Kimpton, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants was acquired by IHG in 2015 and currently operates 75 open hotels and 32 in the pipeline to open in the next three to five years. The brand is also set to make its debut in Bali and Paris in 2021.
