IHG opens Hotel Indigo Helsinki

The debut Hotel Indigo in Scandinavia, Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard, is operating under a franchise agreement with Restel Limited. The 120-key hotel is located on Bulevardi, one of the city’s most historic and diverse streets, connecting two contrasting worlds of design.

To the east of the hotel is the design district of Esplanadi, a community of galleries, while to the west lays the Baltic Sea and the Hietalahti Shipyard. This area acts as the core zone for industrial design, which has been responsible for developing the design of icebreaker ships for the last 150 years.

In addition to 120 guestrooms equipped with complimentary minibar and WiFi, the hotel features a 24/7 Body, Soul & Mind studio with gym, yoga room and Finnish Sauna & Steam Bath, as well as conference and business centre.

As IHG’s boutique brand, every Hotel Indigo property is designed to reflect the local neighbourhood. From the hotel’s design and artwork to the locally inspired menus, each Hotel Indigo is unique to its surroundings, and no two hotels are the same. The Helsinki property reflects the fabric of the design-orientated neighbourhood right down to the murals on the walls, two of which were created by young Finnish graphic designers, Linda Linko and Pietari Posti.

Mikaela Pomren, General Manager, Hotel Indigo Helsinki – Boulevard commented: “Hotel Indigo Helsinki-Boulevard truly reflects the duality of Helsinki’s architecture and design and is ideally located for guests to head out to explore the neighbourhood. We look forward to welcoming guests to our hotel and restaurants, and to showing them what Helsinki and Bulevardi have to offer.”

The hotel offers two dining options; Bröd, an 80-seat restaurant serving Finnish specialities, and Soup & Juice, a deli that will sit just inside the hotel. Soup & Juice is an example of the brand’s new food and beverage philosophy, aiming to create a local landmark by bringing the best food and drink artisans from the community into the hotels.

Tom Rowntree, IHG’s Vice President for Hotel Indigo, Europe said: “We’re enormously proud to be opening our first Hotel Indigo in Scandinavia. The hotel reflects this dynamic neighbourhood in Helsinki, showcasing both old and new influences of the design history. It’s a great representation of everything the Hotel Indigo brand has to offer.”

There are currently 17 Hotel Indigo hotels in Europe and 12 in the pipeline.
