InterContinental debuts in Bulgaria

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of InterContinental Sofia, an IHG hotel, in Bulgaria’s capital city of Sofia. Set amidst domed churches and Ottoman mosques, the opening marks the brand’s Bulgarian debut though joins a portfolio of seven Eastern European IHG properties.

Comprising 194 guestrooms – including 27 club rooms and 37 suites – the design draws inspiration from the surrounding city and its vibrant history, with interiors seeking to deliver comfort while embodying the spirit of Sofia, from the statue of a girl blowing a dandelion that signifies hope and unity in the lobby through to rooms that mimic architectural influences from the 1960.

Situated in the centre of the city, the hotel features views of Bulgaria’s Parliament building, The Tsar Liberator Monument, and the gold-covered domes of the St Alexander Nevski Catherdral. For business travellers, InterContinental Sofia is in close proximity to the main financial area and has a dedicated meetings floor which can accommodate up to 240 guests. The hotel also has a 24-hour business centre, and around-the-clock gym.

Tom Rowntree, Vice President Brand Marketing, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, IHG, Europe comments: “InterContinental has pioneered luxury travel for more than 70 years, through constant innovation and openings in emerging luxury destinations.
