Hotel Indigo to become part of Manhattan’s financial district

The 190-room hotel will pay homage to how time has shaped the precision work done in the area, from its roots in engraving, jewellery and watchmaking to the meticulous trading on today’s Wall Street.

“The financial district has long been known for its commercial success, but it’s recently experienced significant cultural and residential growth, and we are so proud that we’re becoming part of the neighbourhood,” commented Mary Winslow, Director, Hotel Indigo Brand Management. “Everyone knows that on Wall Street, time is money, but a lot of people may not know about the area’s history in clock and watchmaking. We can’t wait to show our guests how special this neighbourhood really is.”

The Hotel Indigo NYC Financial District hotel, set to open in 2016, will be located on one of New York’s oldest streets, Maiden Lane, whose history includes the race to build the world’s most legendary watch. Maiden Lane is also known for having a clock embedded in the sidewalk in front of William Barthman Jeweller, to this day the only jewellery story in the area. Over time, the area has evolved into the global financial epicentre that it is today.

The 76,500ft2 newbuild hotel will be a block from the One World Trade Centre, designated as the tallest building in America and expected to be a significant anchor for Lower Manhattan’s business and leisure visitors. The hotel’s ownership is investing $32million in the 25-storey hotel, situated on Maiden Lane between Nassau Street and Broadway. The hotel will offer a unique spin on the idea of time, from the food and drinks served in the restaurant and bar to the art, photography and architecture that will be incorporated into the hotel’s design.

The hotel will have approximately 1,450ft2 of meeting space, a fitness centre and a rooftop lounge. Guestrooms will feature plush bedding, hard-surface flooring with area rugs and spa-inspired bathrooms. Guests and locals will enjoy a neighbourhood bar with seasonal and locally sourced food in a stylish environment.

The hotel will feature that brand’s new Neighbourhood Guide, an innovative touchscreen display that connects guests to each other, the local neighbourhood and to Hotel Indigo locations around the world. Hotel team members, many of whom are locals themselves will share their favourite hidden gems with guests looking to explore and discover the neighbourhood.

This will be the fifth Hotel Indigo in New York City. The brand currently has locations in Brooklyn and Chelsea, with additional properties planned for the Lower East Side and Flushing, Queens.

“We are also developing the Hotel Indigo project in Flushing, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with IHG,” said Thomas Wang, 10-12 MLane, LLC. “We appreciate the opportunity that only the Hotel Indigo brand provides, to bring each of these distinct neighbourhoods to life, along with the consistencies of an established global brand.”

In addition to this signing, the Hotel Indigo brand recently announced new properties set to open in three major European cities; Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg Tchaikovskogo, Hotel Indigo Madrid Gran Via and Hotel Indigo Rome St. George.

The Hotel Indigo NYC Financial District, owned by 10-12 MLane, LLC will be franchised by an affiliate of IHG.
