Hotel Indigo expands London portfolio

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has announced the opening of Hotel Indigo London – 1 Leicester Square, in the heart of the capital’s stage and theatre district.

The 95-room boutique hotel features theatrical touches inspired by the neighbourhood’s history and heritage, with each of the three distinct guestroom designs by Michaelis Boyd representing different stages of putting on a theatrical production.

Scriptwriter Rooms channel a playwright’s study: an inspiring and poetic space. Robust materials create a personal and intimate atmosphere with drafts of scripts framed as artwork. Backstage Rooms reference stars’ dressing rooms in their design and are complete with the technical fittings of a stage: spotlights, ropes and illuminated, flamboyant dressing room mirrors, while Auditorium Rooms capture the exclusive experience of a private theatre box. At the bottom of the bespoke banquette in each guestroom, gold plate numbers reference auditorium seating and luxe polished plaster is reminiscent of the historic patina of a theatre.

Nestled between Chinatown, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus, the hotel affords views of the city’s architectural icons, including The Shard, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Nelson’s Column, the London Eye and the Gherkin. Seven guestrooms also come complete with balconies overlooking the square, whilst a rooftop restaurant encompasses floor-to-ceiling glass and a wrap-around balcony – a centrestage spot to watch over the red carpet during film premieres.

“Whether you are after a night out at the theatre, great restaurants and bars or just want to explore nearby Chinatown, our adventurous guests really will be in the thick of it when they stay at Hotel Indigo London – 1 Leicester Square,” comments Tom Rowntree, Vice President of Brand Management – Luxury and Boutique brands, IHG, Europe. “We are delighted to open this hotel in such an exciting location and hope our Hotel Indigo guests enjoy exploring all the hidden gems the area has to offer.”

Asif Aziz, Founder and CEO, Criterion Capital, adds: “I have a passion for London’s West End and have had the privilege to invest in and curate some of the city’s most iconic landmark buildings. The creation of Hotel Indigo at One Leicester Square represents the beginning of a journey to bring some dynamic hospitality concepts to the capital.”

The Hotel Indigo brand is set to increase its footprint in 2018 with upcoming openings also including Hotel Indigo London – Aldgate, Hotel Indigo Milan – Corso Monforte, Hotel Indigo Brighton and Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon.

Across Europe, there are currently 24 Hotel Indigo properties with 20 due to open over the next three to five years. A significant proportion of these are in the UK, where the estate is also set to double from 11 hotels over the next three to five years.
