Hotel Herringbone

Hotel Herringbone opens in Waco

Hotel Herringbone has opened its doors in downtown Waco, Texas, finding home in a converted shipping container development.

San Diego-based Rad Lab partnered with FreeForm Development, Lucky Find Hospitality and restaurateur Corey McEntyre to acquire and reimagine the site.

Hotel Herringbone offers 21 Art Deco-inspired guestrooms alongside over 30,000ft² of programmed and activated space for F&B, entertainment and retail. The property also comprises a 15,000ft² landscaped public plaza showcasing 12 curated retail spaces for visitors.

Guestrooms feature colourful monochromatic and Mid-Century design details, with unique features such as a Roman-style bathtub and intricate custom-millwork framing.

Interior designer Taylor Leage incorporated varied elements from all corners of the world into the design. “We aimed to showcase layered elements stemming from the wide-ranging regions and history through the lens of a 20th-century world traveller and her husband – evoking the feeling of your grandmother’s attic filled to the brim and brought to life as if it were brand new,” she explains. “The design also aimed to highlight the existing architecture created by the modular pods on the exterior, but once inside, it transforms into a world of nostalgia reminiscent of a feeling with no specific time or place. To execute this, we used a wide array of design aesthetics from old-world to retro-mod. Art Nouveau detailing is balanced out with modern futuristic forms.”

The four F&B outlets in Hotel Herringbone are led by local chef Corey McEntyre, who has long been a pillar of the Waco culinary scene, and Chef de Cuisine Joel Garza. Red Herring promises Mediterranean flavours amidst a backdrop of Mid-Century arts and crafts, channelling the feel of a ‘70s lounge, terrarium and disco. The restaurant features a raised piano bar with a large grand piano and a raw bar inside a larger-than-life oyster shell. Other venues include Lucky Buck’s, an elevated rooftop sports bar concept; Songbird, a curated wine and charcuterie bar paired with a goods market; and a ground-floor craft coffee shop.

The hotel offers multiple spaces for events and community gatherings, including a large ballroom that fits 150 people on the second floor, complete with exposed ceiling trusses and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the area.
