Third in our series of hotel construction reports compiled with data from Tophotelprojects, is Bali – a place dubbed as ‘Island of the Gods’ and famous for attracting yogis, surfers and party goers. We’ve selected some of the best new hospitality projects in the city’s pipeline.
With its quick ascent to being a top holiday destination in recent years, and what would have been our 2020 Sleepover location had coronavirus not struck, Bali currently has 28 projects and a total of 5,101 rooms in the works.
A hotspot for resorts – which encompass a number of exceptional leisure, retail, wellbeing and dining facilities – brands such as Shangri-La, Andaz and Luxury Collection have descended onto the scene, as well as other branded hotels such as Waldorf Astoria Bali, Jumeirah Bali and the recently opened Raffles Bali.
The holiday island, according to Statistics Indonesia, saw only 327 incoming tourists just before it closed its borders in April, which, compared to nearly half a million visitors in the same month the year before, is a cause for concern. Despite ongoing fears towards the virus, Bali is set to reopen in August, signalling some hope that the island will pick up where it left off as one of the top holiday destinations of today.
