Historic Tokyo welcomes The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon
Nationally renowned architect and interior designer Shigeru Uchida has transformed the former office building into The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon: a crisp, clean, contemporary sanctuary.
“I’m interested in something beyond the visible or touchable, that is, the existence within the invisible,” says Uchida.
The hotel, which opened in August, features an impressive 13th floor lobby with panoramic city views, a 14th floor terrace open 24 hours a day, and a restaurant and bar offering a distinct take on casual French fusion cuisine.
Each of the 137 guestrooms and suites feature floor-length windows, with the design aesthetic combining subdued elegance and bold, urban vitality. Textiles by Marimekko designer Masaru Suzuki and original artwork by the acclaimed Japanese artist Katsuhiko Hibino confirm the Kaminarimon’s commitment to art and design. Five abstract paintings have been commissioned by the hotel, demonstarting the dynamic interplay between Uchida’s architectural design and the bustling neighborhood surrounding it.
