Grand Hyatt set for Miami Beach
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced a partnership with Terra Group and Tunberry that will bring the Grand Hyatt brand to Miami Beach. Slated for a 2023 opening, the 17-storey, 800-key Grand Hyatt Miami Beach will be located at the intersection of 17th Street and Convention Centre Drive – adjacent to the recently renovated Miami Beach Convention Centre, and within walking distance of Lincoln Road Mall and the New World Symphony concert hall. It will join the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay as the brand’s second property in Florida.
“At Hyatt, we believe in growing with intent and expanding our footprint in markets that matter most to our guests and World of Hyatt members,” comments David Tarr, Senior Vice President, Development, Americas, Hyatt. “Hyatt is proud to play an integral role in this project as hotel operator, under the luxury Grand Hyatt brand, which will help guests and locals alike celebrate the iconic, captivating city of Miami Beach.”
Designed by architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia and his Arquitectonica studio alongside a team including Craig Robins of Darca – a leading figure in the revival of Miami’s Art Deco District in the 1990s – the project will feature two floors of dedicated meeting space, a resort style pool deck, and an elevated skybridge that will allow guests free movement between the Convention Centre and hotel. Within, Stonehill Taylor will design the lobby, guestroom, public spaces and ballrooms, whilst EoA Group oversee the pool deck. With the state of Florida having been subject to a series of damaging weather cycles over the last few years, the property will incorporate sustainability measures including storm water management and reuse, flood risk mitigation and the use of solar power.
“The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) joins Terra, Turnberry and The City of Miami Beach in welcoming Grand Hyatt Miami Beach as the new 800-room headquarter hotel connected to the Miami Beach Convention Centre,” said William D. Talbert, III, CDME, President of the GMCVB. “Grand Hyatt Miami Beach will make it possible to better compete for citywide conventions which fuel jobs in our community and generates business for all of Greater Miami’s hotels and merchants. We look forward to the hotel ground-breaking which once completed will finalise the Miami Beach Convention Centre District.”
