Goddard Littlefair designs Andalusian retreat for Iconic Luxury Hotels
Iconic Luxury Hotels has announced that it will launch a new hotel in Marbella in late Spring, designed by Goddard Littlefair.
Perched along the serene shores of Playa del Real de Zaragoza, Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club has been envisioned to epitomise the soul of Andalusia: a place where time-honoured traditions meet a joie de vivre.
Comprising 125 rooms and 10 signature suites, the property fuses Andalusian heritage and modern sophistication. Interior design and architecture pay homage to Andalusia’s Moorish legacy, with design details that include sweeping horseshoe arches, local stone masonry and ornate zellige tilework that honour centuries-old craftsmanship. Delicate jali windows and handcrafted Moorish lanterns see shadows dance across walls, transforming every corner of the hotel with an ethereal illumination.
Intimate courtyards come alive with gentle water features and towering lush greenery, reminiscent of traditional Andalusian riads. The colour palette draws directly from the earth and surrounding landscape: warm terracotta, soft ochre, deep burnt sienna and muted sage tones that capture the essence of the region.
A connection to the locale is set to underpin the hotel’s four restaurants and bars. The all-day dining restaurant, for instance – an al fresco space that captures the Andalusian essence of indoor-outdoor living – will celebrate traditional flavours through seasonal, local produce.
The property’s Amu Beach Club – the second outpost of Amu after Monaco – will be the beating heart of the hotel, complete with an infinity pool, chic oceanside dining spots and direct beach access. Elsewhere, a cavernous spa will enhance the wellness offer, comprising seven treatment cabins, a sauna, steam room and indoor swimming pool. Nearby, a studio has also been introduced as a space for yoga, meditation and breathwork.
“Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club represents an exciting milestone for Iconic Luxury Hotels, extending our celebrated portfolio into the vibrant heart of the Costa del Sol,” says Andrew Stembridge, Executive Director of Iconic Luxury Hotels. “This strategic expansion offers our esteemed loyal guests an extraordinary international experience, unlocking the unparalleled beauty and rich cultural tapestry of Spain’s most captivating coastal region.”
Francisco Macedo, Senior Vice President of Asset Management, Iconic Luxury Hotels, comments: “The upcoming launch of Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club marks a pivotal moment for us. It is the next piece of the international puzzle for Iconic Luxury Hotels, following the debut of Palm House in Palm Beach, Florida in November 2024 and our recent acquisition of Hotel Excelsior on Venice’s Lido Island.”
