A new Four Seasons hotel in Mallorca, Spain

Four Seasons announces plans for Mallorca

Four Seasons and Emin Capital have announced plans to manage the former Hotel Formentor in Mallorca.

Originally opened in 1929, the hotel will undergo major renovations – overseen by Estudio Lamela and SCT Estudio de Arquitectura, with interiors by Gilles & Boissier – before it is unveiled as a Four Seasons in 2023.

The new property will comprise 110 guestrooms and suites, an indoor restaurant, beachfront restaurant and café, a poolside bar and grill, tennis courts and a spa. Guest will also have access to a beach as well as a functioning vineyard – just a five-minute drive away – offering farm-to-table activities. Located on a 3,000 acre plot of the Formentor Peninsula, the resort will also cater for meetings, conferences and weddings thanks to three event spaces and outdoor options that make the most of the pristine natural surroundings.

“Following our entry into Spain in 2020, we are very excited to continue this momentum and expand our presence in this important market, offering guests a unique Four Seasons experience in a top European destination,” says President and CEO John Davison. “It is a privilege to work alongside Emin Capital to create a new vision for this property and we look forward to a successful partnership for many years to come.”

Jordi Badia, Chairman and CEO of Emin Capital, adds: “Formentor is a landmark of Mallorca in a key and unique setting in the Mediterranean. Our goal was to protect both and to reinvigorate the resort with a great luxury brand such as Four Seasons. We are committed to implementing sustainable and green initiatives in our revitalisation while maintaining an exceptional design, facilities and renowned service.”

The project has been designed to respect and protect its natural surroundings through various environmental initiatives, including the restoration of native vegetation and planting, reduced water consumption, rainwater harvesting and the use of grey water for landscape irrigation, heat recovery systems, solar power and food waste management. Other initiatives include the use of electric vehicles and low energy consumption.

Located an hour from Palma de Mallorca Airport, Four Seasons’ new project will become the brand’s second in Spain following the opening of Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Madrid in September 2020.
