Former palace grounds become latest London Hyatt hotel

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the opening of Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars, marking a key milestone in the brand’s growth in the UK capital. The 204-room hotel, housed in a Grade II listed building on the former grounds of King Henry VIII’s Bridewell Palace, claims a prime spot in London’s business and leisure district.

Designed by THDP Ltd, the hotel’s interiors have been influenced by its local history, with the building’s past life as one of King Henry VIII’s royal palaces referenced in materials such as marble ceramics and gold finishes. With Fleet Street just around the corner, the hotel’s design also pays homage to the craftsmanship of printing and publishing, through bespoke artwork on the walls inspired by newspapers.

In guestrooms and suites specifically, which span up to 70m², guests will also have views of the listed buildings that once held the historic printing presses. Accompanying the views will be in-room amenities like ergonomic workspaces and rainfall showers.

“We are delighted to welcome guests to Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars situated alongside our neighbouring landmarks, businesses and cultural attractions,” said Laurent Schauder, General Manager. “With our welcoming service, inventive food and beverage offerings and ideal location, Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars is soon to become the hotel of choice for anyone looking for a memorable experience in the heart of the city.”

Outside of guestrooms, three food and beverage concepts are open to guests. The Chinese Cricket Club offers a contemporary take on Chinese classics, named in honour of Shanghai’s cricket team captain who travelled to London in 1857, opening the first Chinese restaurant in London with his wife. At neighbourhood-style bistro NYnLON, New York and London come together in an all-day menu inspired by the two cities, while at The Leaf and Cane, a 1920s inspired hideaway offers street food and cocktails drawing on the flavours of Latin America.

The new Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars joins a growing list of Hyatt properties in the UK, and marks the ninth Hyatt branded hotel in London.
