First Look: Soho House Manchester
Soho House has unveiled new details about its upcoming opening in Manchester, the first in the North of England. Set for late 2023, the House will give members the Soho House experience across five floors of the former Granada Studios building.
23 guestrooms will find home on the sixth floor, which will also be the site of a 80m² private apartment, with an open plan living room, kitchenette, dining and lounge area, as well as a connecting second bedroom.
The hotel’s interiors will take inspiration from the building’s history, with an eclectic collection of bespoke and vintage furniture pieces referencing its past life. Feature fabrics used on headboards in bedrooms and hanging tapestries in the club space have been developed in partnership with Print Pattern Archive, referencing Manchester based artists and weavers while giving a second life to local archive prints.
On the property’s first floor, a gym, studio space and sauna open up onto a balcony littered with relaxed seating, while the seventh floor will be used as a flexible events space, with a large central bar and DJ booth available for use. Meanwhile, the main members’ Club space on the eighth floor will comprise a casual bar and lounge area, as well as a more formal dining space run by Head Chef James Lord.
“Bringing Soho House to other cities in the UK has always been something we’ve wanted to do and, as a Mancunian, I’m particularly proud to be coming to Manchester,” says Andrew Carnie, Soho House & Co CEO. “Nick and the design team have worked hard to create a space for our members that preserves the heritage of the Granada Studios building, while introducing a rooftop pool terrace and floor to ceiling windows on the top floor. The view of the city is going to be amazing from there and I can’t wait for members to experience it.”
The property’s east-facing wall will have a retractable roof with an awning to open up in the warmer months, maximising views across the city. Towards the back of the space, an indoor pool lounge area will connect to the outdoor rooftop pool – complete with sunbeds and a terrace bar – while a spiral staircase will lead to the floor above, home to a late-night bar and live music space.
The Granada Studios redevelopment will also be home to a Mollie’s Motel, Bar & Diner, offering Mollie’s guests, Soho House members and the public access to a live music bar and events space on the lower ground floor, a lounge and deli bar, workspace and diner at street level, as well as 133 guestrooms designed by Soho House.
