Casa Monti Rome Guestroom

First Look: Casa Monti, Rome

Family-owned Leitmotiv – the group behind La Fantaisie in Paris – has given a first look at its third hotel and first Italian property.

Casa Monti is set to open its doors in Spring 2024 at a historic address in Rome. Its 26 rooms and ten suites are steeped in artistic influence, emulating the craftsmanship of the Monti district.

Rich local culture is reflected through the interiors of the hotel, with a carefully selected colour palette and bespoke prints evoking a carefree Italian spirit. Interior designer Laura Gonzalez was inspired by the Italian notion of sprezzatura – a feeling of relaxed ease and effortless elegance – which she has paired with her trademark colourful style.

“Romans cultivate their interiors, they create meticulous universes, layering on creative references,” says the designer. “That is how I envisaged Casa Monti, imbued with an intimate atmosphere like a Roman home; open onto neighbourhood life, it invites Romans to step inside and enjoy. Starting in the lobby, the frescoes – a blend of drawings and paintings in various shades of green – were created by artists and painters in a Milanese style. They drew inspiration from the ubiquitous umbrella pines and clouds of swallows that rise up above the city. Each floor also tells its own allegory featuring birds, symbolising liberty. Rome is also a boundless source of architectural references that informed and inspired my designs for the frescoes in the spa.”

The hotel’s restaurant opens out onto a terrace, and is also home to a lively patio and fountain. Further back, a bar-café is a space that blends neutral browns and creams, complemented by a travertine tile floor in an embellished Italian grid pattern. Moving upstairs, guests will find the rooftop terrace, aptly decorated in shades of sky blue.

Casa Monti will also be home to a Susanne Kaufmann spa, set to be offer the privilege of a panorama of the city.
