First Look: art’otel Rome Piazza Sallustio

art’otel is set to debut in Rome in March 2025, with a new opening designed by contemporary artist Pietro Ruffo and Eyal Shoan of Digital Space.

With successful openings in cities including London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Zagreb and Cologne, Art’otel – the contemporary lifestyle hotel brand owned by PPHE Hotel Group – celebrates an important milestone with the opening of Rome Piazza Sallustio.

Located in the heart of Rome and overlooking the ancient Horti Sallustiani, art’otel Rome Piazza Sallustio brings together bold design and immersive art experiences. From layered paintings, to stone, textiles, installations and tiles, the hotel’s public spaces and 99 guestrooms showcase Signature Artist Ruffo’s works, making the hotel the largest permanent collection of his work to date. The creative has designed a collection for the hotel that is inspired by Rome’s layered history, exploring the constellations above, as well as the flora, fauna and people who have shaped the city over centuries.

“The collection of art’otel unfolds stories of the different historical layers that have built Rome past and future, creating a meeting of nature, people and stars on every surface and around every corner,” shares Ruffo.

The hotel will feature a restaurant and bar with a large ground floor terrace, also adorned with art. Elsewhere, an on-site gallery will host dynamic exhibitions from renowned and emerging artists, opening with an exclusive exhibition from Ruffo himself.

Diego Di Gaetano, the hotel’s General Manager, comments: “Rome is often described as an open-air museum, and our art’otel adds to this with innovation and a contemporary edge. Every corner of the hotel’s design will feature Ruffo’s art, creating an immersive and sexy contrast between its modernity and the city’s timeless charm.”

Greg Hegarty, co-CEO of PPHE Hotel Group, also adds: “art’otel Rome Piazza Sallustio is a milestone moment for our brand. Not only does this project bring the art’otel brand to Italy for the first time, but it cements the unmissable collaboration between the hotel interior design created by Eyal Shoan (Digital Space), and the art of our Signature Artists that the brand stands for. With our Signature Artist Pietro Ruffo’s remarkable vision and our commitment to creating immersive lifestyle destinations, this property will offer an entirely new way to experience Rome – as a vibrant, living canvas of art, food and culture.”
