Filario Hotel opens in Lezzeno
The Filario Hotel & Residences, owned by Alessandro Sironi and a member of Design Hotels, has opened its doors.
Located at Sironi’s native home of Lake Como, Italy, it envisages his wish to protect and preserve the heritage of an area that remains largely undiscovered. Authenticity and provenance are central to the family-owned hotel’s philosophy, and a close relationship with the local community enables guests to have unique experiences such as moonlit fishing trip and private vineyard tours.
Joining with development company Nessi & Majocchi, the building was once the site of a small wire factory and took five years to construct due to restrictions that protect the landscape and history of the region. Local stones, typical of the Lombardy region, were shaped to create the hotel façade integrating it into the mountainside. With limited space available, fewer and larger rooms were chosen offering views of Bellagio, Villa Balbianello and Comacina Island.
Renowned Italian designer Alessandro Agrati provided the décor, employing his signature style of incorporating textiles, light and strong-tempered objects into the interiors. Italian heritage was important to the project with most items being custom-made by local craftsmen, mainly from the neighbouring town of Cantù.
Sironi says: “I love being surrounded by the changing seasons, by towns and buildings that are centuries old, and by the mix of traditional and contemporary art and culture that permeates the elements of everyday life.”
The hotel offers 21 rooms and apartments, each with their own private terrace, and an infinity pool that stretches into the wishbone-shaped Lake Como. Other features include a private beach, a gym containing Technogym equipment, in-room massages and REALL beauty treatments as well as a Bistrò, which showcases classic Italian dishes.
