Elewana Collection launches Explorer collection in Serengeti
Elewana Collection has announced the opening of Explorer Serengeti, the first lodge of the new Explorer by Elewana collection.
The new collection of upscale, contemporary safari lodges caters to a wider audience through a more attainable price point than the group’s existing portfolio, as well as an increased range of activities and experiences on-site.
Located in the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, the property is home to the Serengeti’s first on-site hide overlooking a watering hole, allowing guests to view wildlife without travelling far from base.
It comprises 74 rooms in total, split between 68 explorer rooms and six suites, all with a private balcony. Built on the historic grounds of Serengeti Sopa Lodge, Serengeti Explorer honours its predecessor’s environmental legacy by maintaining the original room count. Architecture is courtesy of 2802 Architects, while interior design was crafted in-house. The team employed careful reconstruction practices, recycling many of the existing materials so as not to disrupt the delicate ecosystem and ensure minimal impact on the Serengeti’s wilderness.
Wellness amenities take the form of an infinity pool and wellness centre, while F&B options take the form of a chef’s table located within a wine cellar, a Boma restaurant offering a bush dinner of African and Swahili signature dishes, and the main Acacia restaurant and Kisimani poolside bistro and bar.
Elsewhere, an on-site art gallery showcases local talent, while local crafts are available for purchase in a retail centre. Additional amenities include a creative photo studio and a stargazing deck.
Serengeti Explorer’s opening will be followed by the launch of Ngorongoro Explorer in 2026, and later Tarangire Explorer.
“The launch of Explorer by Elewana marks an exciting milestone for our group,” says Karim Wissanji, Group Chairman and CEO. “This upscale safari lodge concept, set in the renowned wildlife-rich regions of Northern Tanzania, fills a unique niche by targeting the needs and price point of the mid-market safari guest. Explorer promises a range of immersive safari experiences within World Heritage-designated natural landscapes. Consistent with every Elewana property, Explorer will be characterised by exemplary service, remarkable wildlife encounters, and a deep connection to nature. Our commitment to conservation and community engagement, a cornerstone of our ethos, will continue to be at the heart of everything we do.”
