Element by Westin announces Australian debut
Element by Westin, a Marriott International label, has announced the opening of Element Melbourne Richmond, marking the brand’s Australian debut. Owned and developed by TRC, the project has been constructed in-line with the longer-stay brand’s eco-conscious ethos, and is located in the new Botanicca Corporate Park on the banks of the Yarra River, in close proximity to Swan Street.
“The launch of Element Melbourne Richmond marks a significant milestone for Marriott International, as the first of its kind in Australia,” says Mike Fulkerson, Vice President, Brand & Marketing, Asia-Pacific, Marriott International. “A recognised industry leader in the longer-stay eco space, Element Hotels promotes a balanced approach to living and travel. The debut comes as travellers are increasingly seeking out accommodation that offers a flexible environment to live, work and connect.”
Designed by Melbourne architects Rothelowman, the structure takes the form of a curved façade that reflects the winding river, with tones inspired by Australian flora characterising interior spaces. Oversized windows provide an abundance of natural light, whilst eco-conscious touches including energy-saving LED lighting, CO2 sensors monitoring air quality and water-saving taps will seek to reduce the project’s environmental impact. Each of the 163 guestrooms and five deluxe balcony king rooms include natural light and spa-inspired bathrooms, with others featuring energy-efficient kitchenettes.
The hotel’s F&B programme, meanwhile, will include the Mint Lane Restaurant & Bar, serving seasonal modern Australian fare using fresh local ingredients, as well as grab and go pantries and a multifunctional dining room. A total of 268m² of meeting space can be configured to welcome between 12 to 250 guests, with an outdoor deck space providing sweeping views of Melbourne’s skyline and CBD.
“We’re excited to be bringing a new experience to the Australian market, catering to the eco-conscious traveller who is looking to maintain a balanced lifestyle when on the road,” says Harry Singh, General Manager, Element Melbourne Richmond. “From our spacious guest rooms, to our wholesome food options and amenities, no matter how long a guest stays, Element Melbourne Richmond ensures time away from home doesn’t mean time away from life.”
