D&D London announces first hotel venture

The hotel will contain a number of restaurants and bars. This will include a Bar and Grill on the ground floor and a spectacular 7th floor rooftop restaurant and bar with an outdoor terrace overlooking the City skyline.

The hotel will also provide extensive meeting, private dining and events spaces. The development is anticipated to commence on site in 2010 with a view to opening in 2012.

The project marks D&D London’s first foray into the hotel sector following the £150m sale of the Great Eastern Hotel to Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in 2006, by Conran Holdings. Sir Terence Conran currently retains a 51% stake in D&D London, despite Goldman Sachs being appointed to find a buyer for it last year.

Des Gunewardena, Chairman and CEO of D&D London commented: “This will be D&D’s first hotel. I think it’s a gem of a site and especially after our Great Eastern experience I am very confident that we can make a success of it. We are also very pleased to be working with Frogmore. I have known Paul White and his team for many years. They understand our aspirations for the site and I am sure will prove excellent development partners for us.”

Paul White, CEO of Frogmore said: “I am delighted that we have concluded this letting to D&D.  This will be just what this location needs and D&D has the perfect background for both this hotel and the restaurants.”
