Cuckooz collaborates with Simba on sleep-centric serviced apartments
Sleep technology company Simba has partnered with operator Cuckooz to develop a series of serviced apartments in London’s Tech City. Combining their knowledge of sleep across the sectors, The Zed rooms have been designed as boutique spaces modelled after wombs, and suitably billed as “Wooms”.
Featuring cocoon-like beds, muted lighting and soft pink walls, each space has been designed to encourage REM-rich sleep and positive relaxation, whilst muting the distortion many guests experience when sleeping in a new environment.
Hope Bastine, resident sleep psychologist at Simba, comments: “If you’ve ever noticed that you don’t sleep as well in a hotel, you’re not alone. Scientists recognised the first night effect over a decade ago, where one half of the brain unconsciously acts as a night watchman staying more alert when in unfamiliar surroundings. With this in mind, tapping into the emotional and physical, no stone has been left unturned trying to soothe the effects of this in the design architecture of our new cutting-edge sleep retreat.”
Incorporating insights rooted in the science of sleep, The Zed Room apartments seek to engage with every sensorial touchpoint of the body, creating an ecosystem that in theory promotes better sleep.
The furniture’s rounded edges and softened corners mimic the sensation of bed, while rocking chairs will allow guests to lull themselves to sleep. A selection of bespoke sleep recipe suggestions created in partnership with Detox Kitchen are also available, whilst the incorporation of Simba’s Hybrid mattress – developed using complex body profiling data of 10 million sleepers – will aim to generate the perfect sleep setting for both business and leisure guests.
