Clifftop Amalfi hotel unveils renovated Infinito suite

Amalfi’s Palazzo Avino has unveiled a newly renovated suite designed by Italian designer Giuliano Dell’Uva. Dell’Uva has brought his refined style to the hotel in its brand-new Infinito Suite, which features a private terrace and expansive sea views.

Residing in the tower, the highest part of the Amalfi hotel, the Infinito Suite comprises two floors, filled with light and sweeping arches. Furnishings and decor in the new suite bring together pieces from a range of different periods and places, including 1950s Danish lamps designed by Arne Jakobbson, and pieces from Gio Ponti and Cini Boeri.

“The starting point of this project was imagining a space immersed in the beauty of this breath-taking landscape and ancient architecture, with an Eastern look,” explains Dell’Uva. “The first step concerned the architectural structure, in which the architect had to answer the specific need for people to move within the designed space: we started from the desire to restore the place, reopening old ogival windows, which offered wider space and brightness.”

Mariella Avino, Managing Director and co-owner of Palazzo Avino adds: “First of all, I wanted the project to be a recovery, strongly rooted in the history of the place. I imagined that colour could enter the space, to mirror the great beauty outside. For years I had admired architect Dell’Uva’s attention to a place’s history and his ability to enhance the outlines with colours and a timeless touch. He perfectly managed to reach both objectives, and now we leave it to our guests to admire and hopefully appreciate the details.”

Such details include the work of English artist David Tremlett, whose designs focus mainly on the use of colour. His contribution to the new suite takes the form of the ceramic vault ceilings and flooring, which are hand-made and created following ancient ceramic traditions. Additional design details across the suite include terracotta vases, and hand-enamelled ceramic washbasins in the bathroom.

The Infinito Suite is a new addition to Palazzo Avino, which originally opened in 1997. Perched 1000 ft above sea level, the Amalfi hotel finds home in the medieval village of Ravello.
