citizenM unveils first hotel in Malaysia
citizenM has made its third venture into the Asian market – following the launch of Taipei North Gate in July 2017, and Shanghai Hongqiao in December 2018 – and first in Malaysia with the opening of citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang.
The hotel takes its name from the buzzing district in which it is based, a neighbourhood characterised by shopping, entertainment and dining destinations within the Golden Triangle. The Bukit Bintang location allows both tourists and business travellers to combine leisure and work time, particularly with the iconic Jalan Alor street only 100 metres away.
The 210-key property will aim to shake up the traditional hotel industry with innovative front-desk and in-room technology in place to deliver a unique guest experience. The check-in kiosks eliminate the usual queues to reception, while a designer living room is in place of a traditional lobby and accommodates Vitra furniture, commissioned art from the likes of Azizi Latiff and Afiq Faris, books, work spaces and TVs.
The living space will feature a painted art ceiling, foliage carpets and large planters with hanging greenery, in order to represent the colours and nature for which Malaysia is recognised. Elsewhere, CanteenM is a dining space and bar that is dedicated to 24/7 food and drink.
To facilitate easy working for business travellers, citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang also features society, incorporating three creative meeting spaces that include a theatre-style room for up to 40 participants. These spaces can be booked for full- or half-day meetings, workshops, presentations, interviews, and other gatherings, with catering available additionally on request.
While a traditional hotel lists at least three room types, every citizenM guestroom comes complete with an XL king-size bed with a luxury mattress, duvet and pillows, as well as a powerful rain shower, towels, a smart TV, blackout blinds and multiple plugs.
Rooms are controlled by an iPad, or ‘MoodPad’ as they are known at citizenM – so guests can set any mood, including coloured lighting, temperature and entertainment content. Superfast free Wi-Fi is also available to stream entertainment via Apple or Android devices.
citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang marks the Dutch brand’s first opening of 2019, making it citizenM’s 16th stylish urban destination worldwide.
