citizenM announces Copenhagen opening
Design-led hotel brand citizenM has announced the opening of its 14th property – and first in the Nordic region – in the centre of Copenhagen, following a partnership with real-estate investor Claus Hildebrandt.
Ahead of its opening in the Dagmarhus building at H.C. Andersens Boulevard 12, citizenM has collaborated with local photographer Marie Hald on an art installation for the facade of the new hotel. The project launched with a light show, and will remain on display until the official opening in December. The project ‘citizens of Copenhagen’ consists of 33 portraits of local Copenhageners, which are displayed in 150 windows on the hotel facade, creating a public gallery during the final phase of the building’s completion. Light artist Jakob Kvist has also created a special light show which, in collaboration with Marie Hald’s portraits on the facade, will become a large interactive artwork. Furthermore, artist Troels Aagaard has painted a permanent entrance mural on both walls, while Ditte Ejlerskov and HuskMitNavn contributed in-room art as well as wall and ceiling murals.
Inside, the citizenM living room is the main attraction, and marks a first for the brand in that it is located on the top floor. Furnished with Vitra couches, tables, chairs and bookcases – and decorated with a mix of commissioned and collected art and objects – the space is styled to be playful yet relaxing; a homely place to watch TV, work or socialise.
Meanwhile, the cloudM sky bar (open to the public) offers an outdoor terrace, generous city views and artisanal cocktails, whilst the 24-hour canteenM is nestled into the heart of the living room and stocks food from local suppliers.
The hotel’s 238 guestrooms feature XL-king-size beds, Grohe power showers with full-size custom-made shower gels and unlimited Wi-Fi, while an in-room iPad (known as the MoodPad) allows guests to control temperature, lighting and the blinds.
Four creative societyM spaces (the largest room sits up to 12) are also available for half-day and full-day bookings with optional catering. Ample daylight, walls to draw on, AV equipment and Vitra furniture allow the spaces to cater for meetings, presentations, networking, interviews, workshops and other activities.
citizenM Copenhagen Radhuspladsen is located just steps from the City Hall Square (Radhuspladsen), four minutes’ walk from Tivoli Gardens, and 10 minutes’ walk from The National Museum of Denmark. Central Station is just eight minutes away by foot.
