citizenM announces 2019 openings

citizenM is continuing its global expansion with the opening of six new hotels in 2019. Each property from Shanghai to Seattle to Zurich will be in line with the brand’s innovative ethos, becoming a social hub where art, culture and community can thrive.

citizenM Shanghai Hongqiao, the group’s first hotel in Shanghai, is located in the Minhang district close to Koreatown and the MixC mega-complex, while Hongqiao International Airport is just a short taxi drive away. The 303-key property features Vitra furniture throughout, as well as superfast Wi-Fi and the 24/7 canteenM, which serves food, cocktails and barista-brewed coffee.

citizenM has also arrived in one of Kuala Lumpur’s emerging districts – Bukit Bintang. The 210-key property blends harmoniously into the picturesque neighbourhood, which houses a mix of colonial buildings, cutting-edge restaurants and inventive bars.

Meanwhile, citizenM’s new outpost in Boston is set atop the North Station rail and subway hub,  linking it to the city’s Fenway Park and Financial District, as well as Faneuil Hall and the Theatre District. All 272 guestrooms are fitted with blackout blinds, mood lighting and smart TVs, while downstairs the societyM meeting rooms allow business travellers to conduct seminars and conferences. Staying in the US, citizenM Seattle South Lake Union is located just 25 minutes by taxi from Seattle-Tacoma Airport, and spreads 264 guestrooms across seven floors.

Across the pond in Amsterdam, the brand’s third site sits behind a stylish 1930s facade at the edge of the historic 17th-century canal belt, with 12 of the city’s most iconic attractions no more than 18 minutes away. The hotel comprises 84 tech-centric guestrooms, as well as two societyM meeting rooms and the signature canteenM.

Completing the flurry of new openings, citizenM Zurich in the city’s Paradeplatz district is well-connected by tram to sights such as Lake Zurich and Bahnhofplatz. The property features 160 guestrooms, as well as canteenM and five societyM meeting rooms.

Looking ahead, citizenM has announced plans to open a number of properties across Europe and North America in 2020, including the likes of citizenM Paris Opera; citizenM Geneva; citizenM Washington DC Capitol; citizenM Miami Brickell; citizenM Los Angeles Downtown; citizenM Los Angeles Hollywood; and citizenM Seattle Pioneer Square.
