CitizenM Amstel Amsterdam opens doors

CitizenM has opened the doors of its third hotel in founding city Amsterdam. Located in the historical canal ring, the property is within walking distance to many leisure and business destinations. CitizenM’s Amsterdam-based design partner, Concrete, were responsible for converting the existing structure – built in 1928 in the style of architecture championed by the Amsterdam School. Existing doors have been restored to retain the historical character of the building whilst, at street level, specially commissioned canal and water-inspired artworks by Freudenthal Verhagen are displayed across the eight main windows.

Bespoke artworks by Pablo Lucker decorate the entrance and efficient self-check-in kiosks stand in place of a conventional reception desk. The living room features furnishings by Vitra, decorative bookcases, and further custom-made artworks by Pinar and Viola – who also painted the living room ceiling. Further situated on the ground floor are: a furnished outdoor courtyard, the collectionM retail space, and the canteenM open-plan dining area providing 24/7 grab and go food and drinks. The hotel also has four societyM meeting rooms available for hire, each accommodating up to fourteen participants.

Upstairs, each of the 88 guestrooms include furnishings by Vitra, XL king-size beds, flat-screen televisions and overhead rain showers. MoodPad tablets in the rooms provide a selection of entertainment options and allow guests to control the blinds, the room ambience and temperature. Guestroom artworks are curated by Foam Editions, the gallery of Foam Photography Museum in Amsterdam; the contributing artists are Isabelle Wenzel, Sanja Marusic and Lisette Appeldorn.

CitizenM Amstel Amsterdam is one of four of new openings the brand has planned this year. In Europe the brand’s key target cities for new sites include London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Dublin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Barcelona, with plans for additional locations in both Zurich and Geneva.
