Casa Hoyos lands in San Miguel de Allende
Nestled at the heart of Mexico’s San Miguel de Allende in a carefully restored mansion house, Casa Hoyos holds the stories of four generations of the Hoyos family. Combining colonial heritage with a chic and eclectic character that gives pride of place to Mexican art and design, the structure of the property – typical of those found in southern Spain – recalls the different lines of business practiced here since it was originally built.
The location of the 16-room hotel in the UNESCO World Heritage town enables guests to plan different experiences – with the support of a 24/7 concierge – to discover the region’s attractions, including a traditional crafts market and the famous Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel church. For culture lovers, the archeological zone of Cañada de la Virgen, built in the 7th century, is less than one hour away. Other options include hiking, thermal spas, horseback riding or a hot-air balloon flight offering views across the Bajío.
Foodies can tickle their fancy at nearby restaurants Marsálà and Antonia Bistro, or French bakery Cumpanio, which is just a block away. They can also visit the regional wineries to enjoy gourmet experiences and wine tastings at the Santísima Trinidad, or a tour of the Bodega Cuna de Tierra, the first vineyard in Guanajuato.
Patrons should not miss the chance to head upstairs at the hotel to Bekeb, a rooftop bar managed by renowned mixologist Fabiola Padilla, and try seasonal cocktails such as Negroni Blanco or Purple Rain.
