Camlux Hotel opens in Hong Kong

Opening this April, Camlux Hotel will mark the first hotel in Kowloon Bay, a high potential district on the east side of Kowloon currently being redeveloped into a commercial and residential area. Housed in a converted factory heritage space, it will feature 185 contemporary guest rooms on six levels, reminiscent of its owning company’s industrial history.

“We are proud to be a homegrown hotel brand and are delighted to take part in conserving and revitalising Hong Kong’s heritage with Camlux Hotel,” comments Calvin Wong, General Manager of Camlux Hotel. “Kowloon Bay today is emerging with new commercial buildings and rapid eclectic developments which have led to the demand of introducing a quality hotel in the area.”

While the exterior façade of the hotel remains the same, the building itself has been given a coat of coral blue to signal the changing era. The architectural team has opened the existing factory space up to allow more natural light in, whilst two courtyards have also been refashioned to preserve the traditional industrial sky-well and create more space.

The retro-modern six-storey Hotel features 103 standard guestooms alongside 70 ‘Comfy’ rooms, ten Family rooms and two studio Rooms, ranging from 22m2 32m2. The property will also provide a range of services and amenities including free Wi-Fi and smart TVs that can be connected to personal entertainment.

All guestrooms feature designs inspired by house-ware products that have been used in the past decades, including wall lampshades reminiscent of colourful vacuum flasks. Elsewhere, the lobby floor features a playful compilation of various materials that were used to manufacture the vacuum flasks, such as brass, copper, stainless steel, glass, and coloured plastics. A casual dining space located on the ground floor, named Café 15, will serve international fare for both guests and locals.

The hotel also provides meeting and conference rooms, a 24-hour gym, on-call medical services; and other services including currency exchange, laundry and dry cleaning, luggage storage, and limousine service.

Located on Wang Kwong Road, Camlux Hotel is conveniently situated near Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre (KITEC), MegaBox, and office buildings in the district. It is within walking distance to Kowloon Bay MTR station, and provides complimentary in town shuttle bus service to shopping districts on Nathan Road as well as the Kowloon Airport Express Link at regular intervals.

“It is an honour to open Camlux Hotel in the same building as the former factory,” Wong concludes. “We are also pleased to play an active role in revitalising the district of Kowloon Bay as well as contributing to Hong Kong’s niche in providing top quality service and hospitality.”
