Ca’ di Dio, a new 66-room hotel designed by Patricia Urquiola, is set to open its doors in Venice in Spring 2021.

Occupying a building that dates back to 1272 and has welcomed crusaders, pilgrims and tourists for more than eight centuries, the property will be located at the entrance to the Arsenale area – known as the city’s contemporary art district and the setting for the Venice Biennale – just a short walk from Piazza San Marco.

Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola has curated the interiors with the aim of creating an original and distinctive concept: a Venetian house, linked to the history of the city, in essence. Though contemporary in style – which is unusual for Venice – the public areas will feature bright travertines and preserved frescoes. Decorative elements such as Murano glass and boiserie, together with architectural details and lighting, have been supplied by small local artisan companies to ensure that the hotel retains a strong sense of place.

Upstairs, 57 suites and nine Deluxe rooms are spread over three floors. Ten suites will offer views of the lagoon and San Giorgio Maggiore, while two will overlook the San Marco Basin thanks to a large roof terrace.

The hotel will also comprise two internal courtyards, home to the Alchemia bar and Essentia restaurant during the summer months, while indoor-outdoor Vero restaurant will look onto the Venetian Lagoon too. The cuisine will be inspired by typical Venetian dishes, revisited with a modern touch yet respecting the seasonality of the ingredients, thanks to an on-site vegetable garden in a third internal courtyard.

Rounding out the offer are a reading room as well as a Pura spa and wellness area for various treatments. Access to the property from the side canal entrance will allow for direct docking of boats and water taxis.

Operated by Voi Hotels, Ca’ di Dio will be the first in a collection of exclusive properties known as V-Retreats.
