Bvlgari has announced that an agreement has been signed for a new hotel in Rome, scheduled to open in 2022.

The new property will be situated in the central Piazza Augusto Imperatore, in the heart of the Campo Marzio neighbourhood. Just a stone’s throw from Via del Corso, Via del Babuino, the Spanish Steps and the Bvlgari flagship on Via Condotti, the hotel will occupy a magnificent building owned by Edizione Properties, who was assisted by CBRE Hotels in the tenant selection process.

Erected between 1946 and 1938 and designed by architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo, the building overlooks two iconic Roman landmarks: the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus. Currently undergoing an extensive renovation, the property now exhibits modern architecture emphasised through the use of traditional Roman materials and colours, such as ochre Travertine marble and burnt red brick.

Italian architectural studio Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel – as will all of Bvlgari Hotels’ other properties – will oversee the project’s architecture and interior design. The hotel will comprise over 100 rooms, most of which will be suites, as well as Il Ristorante – a restaurant curated by Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito – and The Bvlgari Bar.

Other facilities of the hotel will include a high-end spa with an indoor swimming pool and gym. A unique Reading Room will be available for guests to enjoy by appointment only, containing a collection of precious volumes dedicated to the history of jewellery.

Standing out on the building’s façade, on top of a fountain, a Latin inscription says: “This is the place where the Emperor Augustus’ soul flies through the air.”

This unique link between Bvlgari Hotel Roma and Emperor Augustus’ vision will be highlighted with an interior design that balances the rigour of the stones used in Imperial Rome, as well as with rich textures that contrast the architectural essentiality of the building.

“We are particularly proud to have secured such an extraordinary location for the new Bvlgari Hotel in Rome,” comments Jean-Christophe Babin, Bvlgari CEO. “This hotel represents a remarkable achievement for Bvlgari that will finally have its own ‘temple’ right in the city where the company was founded.”
