Bunkhouse announces plans for second Houston hotel

Austin-based hospitality company Bunkhouse has unveiled details of a hotel project in development in Houston. Hotel Daphne, slated to open in early 2025, will be the brand’s second property in Houston, following the opening of Hotel Saint Augustine in autumn 2024.

At the helm of the hotel’s interior design and creative direction is Bunkhouse’s in-house team, working in collaboration with Massachusetts-based Blanchard A+D and California studio Darwin Architecture. Designers have together created a property which sees the Houston Heights’ diverse architectural styles of Arts and Crafts melded with a Folk Victorian style. A five-storey new-build with architecture inspired by the Heights neighbourhood, the property will showcase painted brick, stepped parapets and steel windows, which seamlessly marry it with the area’s recycled industrial style.

Hotel Daphne is set to comprise 47 rooms and suites, an all-day restaurant, ground floor bar and lounge, as well as a courtyard, pool and pool bar, library and a lobby retail shop signature to the Bunkhouse brand.

The new hotel adds to the brand’s existing portfolio of ten properties – six of which are currently in Texas.

“We are very excited to be expanding our presence in Houston with the Hotel Daphne, our second project in the works,” says Amar Lalvani, Executive Chairman, Bunkhouse Hotels. ”The hotel will be a sophisticated yet relaxing gathering place for visitors and the local community alike, in a neighbourhood that we adore – the exact type of place Bunkhouse is renowned for creating and one that is reflective of the city’s diversity, history, and culture.”

Ben Ackerley, owner of Hotel Daphne, adds: “Bunkhouse wrote the book on doing cool boutique hotels in Texas; and ever since I stayed at Hotel San Jose many years ago, I have dreamed of helping bring Bunkhouse to Houston. Our new hotel, Hotel Daphne, will be the first of its kind in the Heights and is only going to add to the momentum that the neighbourhood already has going as it grows into one of the premiere neighbourhoods and destinations in the city.”
