Borough High Street hotel approved
Squire and Partners plans for a boutique hotel on Borough High Street in Southwark have been approved. The seven-storey, 50-key hotel is set to feature a five-storey façade with a bottom-middle-top arrangement inspired by the building adjacent.
At ground level will be a public café framed in glazed black brick, whilst the middle section has regular punched hole windows, and a cornice line and a half brick recess defines the top storey. The two set-back top floors replicate the patterns and proportions of the main façade in aluminium.
The pattern is an abstract interpretation of the ghost signs displayed on the adjoining buildings, providing texture to the façade and making a connection to the history of the site.
