Austin Proper opens doors in Texas
Marking the third property in Proper Hotels’ portfolio, Austin Proper has launched in the Texas state capital. Occupying a 32-story high-rise, the 343-key property comprises 244 guestrooms and 99 branded residences.
The interior design – steered by Kelly Wearstler – mines a tradition of artistry and craftmanship distinct to Austin evidenced in trays and cabinet inlay tiles by ceramicist Rick Van Dyke, locally quarried raw travertine and original fibre artworks by Magda Sayeg.
The historical influence of local stately homes serves as design inspiration throughout, from a sculptural staircase installation of 60 patch worked vintage rugs to a monolithic wood-and-ceramic grandfather clock in the lobby.
Guestrooms are supplied with a range of luxury amenities: Aesop bath products, Kelly Wearstler x Parachute Home robes, Simmons Providence mattresses and Fili D’oro and Bellino Fine Linens.
The F&B offering – led by McGuire Moorman Hospitality – features four different dining concepts. Situated on the ground floor is Peacock Mediterranean Grill serving Israeli and Turkish-inspired fare including mezze plates and wood-grilled foods paired with house-made pita. On the rooftop pool deck is a coastal Mexican restaurant – La Piscina – offering seafood ceviche and fajita options. The Mockingbird serves savoury to-go items such as coffee, falafel and frozen yoghurt; while Goldie’s Sunken Bar is an elegant location for a cocktail.
There is also a plethora of wellness facilities available onsite including a lounge, five spa treatment rooms, steam showers with locker rooms, a 2,000ft2 gym and wellness experts on-call.
