Attitude Hotels unveils new visual identities
Mauritian hotel group Attitude Hotels has commissioned a series of artists to take one of its eight hotels each and get creative, giving them free rein to express themselves and bring the soul, personality and character of every destination to life.
Whether a laidback hideaway for adults or a family-friendly retreat with several restaurants and kids’ clubs, the visual identity stretches across each property, from the logo and the bedroom decoration to pieces of art such as painting the hotels’ street food vans.
The eight projects include Lagoon Attitude, which has been transformed by Mauritian artist Evan Sohun, who uses bold colour, space and contrasting shapes to craft compelling visuals and graphics. Sohun believes that art is a powerful way to trigger social change and his cultural style was a match for the eco-committed hotel.
The initiative is part of Attitude Hotels’ Positive Impact movement, ensuring sustainable tourism supports the local economy and community in Mauritius, as well as protecting the environment. Part of the project is about empowering local people to develop their talents, so the hotels support native artists, musicians and craftspeople too.
Other artists taking part in the programme include graphic designer Daphné Doomun, who worked with The Ravenala Attitude to develop striking graphics that draw inspiration from nature, such as the fresh local ingredients used in the hotel restaurants and the fanning palms in the tropical environment.
Kim Yip Tong meanwhile is the creative talent behind Tropical Attitude’s new visual identity and charming illustrations. As someone who is fascinated by the living world, Yip Tong uses a mixture of traditional craft and new technologies to stir up a sense of movement in her work.
Another virtuoso involved is Henry Coombes, a self-taught artist, children’s book illustrator and theatre performer who drew on his bold and playful style to create illustrations for Coin de Mire Attitude, a family-friendly hotel nestled between a lively resort town and a serene fishing village.
