Atix Hotel to open in Bolivia
Design Hotels has announced that the Atix Hotel will open in the vibrant Calacoto neighbourhood of La Paz, Bolivia. The 53-guestroom hotel will feature artwork by Bolivian artist Gastón Ugalde as well as a fine dining restaurant, rooftop bar, infinity pool, and views of the city and mountains beyond.
Rejecting the European architecture that dominates the city’s Calacoto district, the hotel’s façade is clad in locally sourced natural timber and Comanche stone, which was used to pave the streets of La Paz during the 1920s and 1930s. The result of a collaboration between Stuart Narofsky and Jennifer Rusch of New York-based Narofsky Architecture, the parallelogram-shaped structure is defined by its dramatic scale and vast bay windows.
Conceptualised as a tangible celebration of Bolivia’s cultural heritage, Atix Hotel will act as a showcase for both contemporary indigenous art and centuries-old craftsmanship. Each of the 53 guestrooms will feature a neutral colour palette, accented by oversized headboards and handcrafted furniture rendered from indigenous wood.
Bathrooms will offer stone sinks and dark flagstone walls, along with locally produced bath products. All hotel guests will be able to enjoy complimentary access to the spa, offering a dry room and steam rooms, as well as a comprehensive selection of massage treatments. Elsewhere, the hotel’s signature Atix Suite will feature a terrace and in-room Jacuzzi.
Ona, the on-site restaurant, will serve up a menu comprising fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients and will aim to celebrate Bolivia’s rich biodiversity and culinary traditions. A team of Bolivian chefs including Juan Pablo Reyes, Diego Rodas, and Marco Vera will lead the restaurant.
At the +591 Bar, mixologist David Romero will curate a menu of Bolivian cocktails and spirits, influenced by the country’s flavours, colours, music, and narrative, all served by the rooftop infinity pool.
