Designed by Anouska Hempel, Monsieur George has opened its doors in Paris.
Situated on Rue Washington, the property lies near the Champs-Élysées, offering a calming refuge from the bustle of the neighbourhood.
Hempel was tasked with creating a timeless yet modern hotel, bar and restaurant, offering a residential atmosphere within Paris’ busy 8th arrondisement.
Her style is informed by her travels across the globe, as well as her experiences as a couturier, businesswoman, designer and adventurer.
Monsieur George boasts an intimate, comfortable ambience, established through an abundance of greenery, natural light and sumptuous features, such as marble, velvets and oversized mirrors.
Upon entry, Art Deco-style steel doors lead through to an expansive lobby decorated with hanging Indian lanterns, selected from the new Anouska Hempel Design collection.
Spread across six floors, the hotel comprises 46 guestrooms, including three suites, each boasting its own charm. Sizes include 16m2 Classic rooms, 22m2 Executive Rooms and 24m2 Deluxe rooms.
The Chequers rooms are named after the eponymous 16th century country manor house residence for UK Prime Ministers.
These rooms feature an eye-catching flooring pattern, with rough-hewn stamps making it look like a chequer board.
The bathrooms are marked by their crittall windows and sliding lighting, enhancing the style of the room.
Avant-garde black lacquer and biscuit-hued colours infuse these rooms, invigorated by the strength of Hempel’s design.
The Windsor suite and room, named after the Duke of Windsor and Mrs Simpson, feature grey taffeta curtains, billowing velvets and golden bespoke églomisé mirrored furniture.
These small details bring to mind the romantic past of a bygone era. The Windsor suite and room can also be transformed into one large single unit for guests who seek extra space.
The top floor rooms, sized up to 35m2 and each including terraces, take inspiration from floating white clouds.
These intimate Parisian attic rooms are designed with a white-on-white palette and pale grey motifs. The lighting, in true French style, is kept soft and romantic.
The Marly rooms and suite, a 45m2 duplex with its own private garden, incorporate luscious greens, inspired by the iconic French gardens of Marly at the Palace of Versailles.
The green colour scheme and textiles carry through from the bedroom into the bathroom.
Polished jade greens are incorporated into the bedroom walls and onto the floors, sustaining a calm, yet exotic ambience. Shimmering silver glass and dark green chevron details are complemented with large lanterns inside a four-poster bed.
Leading through the private garden of the Marly suite is a serene courtyard with outside tables and lush greenery. The focal point here is a decorative green enamel stove – an intriguing Art Deco artefact adding an usual touch to the outside space.
The hotel’s restaurant and bar Galanga takes its name after a rare ginger plant.
Offering all-day dining, the restaurant can be found down a leafy walkway lit by lanterns.
The menus are constantly updated by Head Chef Thomas Danigo and Premier Second Chef Simon Pinault. Together, they combine freshness, creativity and tradition to create a range of dishes that deliver an interesting culinary experience.
Meanwhile, the bar, sitting within the restaurant area, offers an impressive cocktail menu with traditional drinks and numerous house creations.
Located near the kitchen is the Monsieur George Wine Cellar, housing a special selection of wines as well as a private dining area.
Rounding off the facilities, a spa is situated in the hotel’s basement, offering custom programmes such as yoga courses, fitness sessions, massages and a wide variety of aesthetic services.
