Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam

Anantara to debut in the Netherlands in 2021

Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas is set to continue its growth in Europe with the opening of its first property in the Netherlands, Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam, which will debut in Autumn 2021.

Located in Dam Square in the heart of the city, the existing property is currently operating as NH Collection Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, an icon in the capital with over 155 years of history. In advance of the rebrand, the building will receive a soft refurbishment, including some of the guestrooms and suites, and the garden, while a new spa and gym will be added. The 402-key Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky will feature a two-bedroom, 100m² Presidential Suite, providing ample room for families or friends travelling together, as well as the Royal Suite, overlooking the Royal Palace of Amsterdam and encompassing 150m² of luxury facilities.

Event spaces will also remain a key element of the property. With capacities ranging from 10 to 1,500, the hotel offers a unique backdrop for small to large-scale meetings and conferences, while wedding venues include The Wintergarden, a 19th century glass-covered inner garden that has been used for generations.

Under the helm of three-star Michelin chef Jacob Jan Boerma meanwhile, The White Room will serve refined, modern cuisine using ingredients from the Netherlands. Grand Café Krasnapolsky also presents an array of classical dishes with a modern twist alongside views over Dam Square, while The Tailor honours founder’s craft through bespoke cocktails; the art of tailoring is stitched together with the menu and the décor.

Elsewhere, a new Anantara Spa is set to blend warm, indigenous-inspired hospitality. Influenced by coastal dunes and designed in natural woods and stone, the space will be located in front of the hotel’s summer garden and comprises three specialised treatment rooms, a sauna and infrared sauna, and a hammam.

The building dates back to 1866, when Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky – a charismatic Polish tailor – opened a tiny coffee house on the site that is now Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. As it grew in popularity, he added rooms for rent and later rebuilt it into a modern hotel. With a private pier on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal Canal, it is only a 25-minute drive from Schiphol Airport, while Amsterdam’s Central Station is just five minutes away.

“We are delighted to be continuing the expansion of our luxury brand in Europe with the addition of Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam,” comments Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of parent company Minor International. “The historic hotel will be a fantastic addition to the Anantara portfolio when it joins later this year and represents an exciting milestone for the brand as the first in Northern Europe.”

Anantara will continue its expansion in Europe later this year with the rebrand of two hotels in Italy and Hungary – Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome and Anantara New York Palace Budapest will join the brand in Q4.  These properties, in addition to Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, will compliment Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort on the southern coast of Portugal and Anantara Villa Padierna Palace in Marbella.

Since acquiring Hotel Krasnapolsky on behalf of clients in 2013, AXA IM Alts has overseen a significant investment programme into the hotel to greatly improve the customer experience and unlock the potential of this historic landmark. This next phase of investment and refurbishment is expected to take the hotel to the next level in terms of luxury, amenities and service. With more than 300 projects in nine European countries for a total of €19.3 billion and €8 billion in projects currently under development, AXA IM Alts has successfully developed an extensive expertise in the hotel sector since 2007, as it manages on behalf of clients 12,600+ rooms across 55 hotels in 12 countries with a combined value of over €3.3 billion.
