Anantara launches debut Malaysian hotel

Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas has opened its doors, marking the brand’s first hotel in Malaysia.

Located along a 17 kilometre beachfront facing the South China Sea, the new 90-key resort offers indigenous-inspired hospitality. Occupying traditional low-rise Malay buildings, the resort features 90 en-suite deluxe rooms overlooking the gardens, lagoon and ocean. Interiors incorporate authentic indigenous materials and fabrics including renowned Malaysian wicker elements and silhouettes of traditional Malay crafts.

The design of the thirteen pool villas draws heavily from traditional kampong houses that are designed to suit the tropical climate, and feature floor-to-ceiling windows, slanted carved wooden panels, vents under the roof, and wide-open doors to allow natural airflow.

The property also boasts a spa, two swimming pools, a health and fitness centre, two golf courses, multiple restaurants and a bar. Dining By Design offers a private dining experience in the exotic locale, while Sea.Fire.Salt. specialises in seafood and steaks served beachside. Elsewhere, Turmeric serves authentic local Malaysian fare as well as Thai, Chinese and international cuisine, and The Observatory Bar offers an extensive drinks menu, accompanied by a 360-degree view of the resort and ocean.

“We are all set to offer discerning travellers an authentic Anantara luxury on Malaysia’s golden shores,” comments Thomas Meier, Minor Hotels’ Senior Vice President of Operations in Asia.

The hotel is a joint venture between the Bangkok-based Anantara and its Malaysian partner, Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels.
