Anantara Iko Mauritius Resorts and Villas opens its doors
Anantara Iko Mauritius Resorts and Villas has opened its doors on the south-eastern coast of the island. Situated on Le Chaland beach, the newbuild was overseen by Australian firm Ground Kent Architects, and interior designers Abacus Design from Thailand, in collaboration with the Office of Global Architecture in Mauritius.
Taking inspiration from the hotel’s surroundings and the melting-pot history and culture of the country, the firms incorporated natural, locally sourced materials, including volcanic stone, basalt and driftwood crafted by local artisans, whilst scattered light and wave-and-ripple patterns blur the lines between indoors and outdoors.
The resort comprises a spa, secluded private beaches and 164 guestrooms – each equipped with rain showers, separate bathtubs and a terrace or balcony with a daybed overlooking either tropical gardens or the Indian ocean. The design here is stylish, harmonising with and echoing shades of the surroundings in order to complement the views. Pool villas – two with two bedrooms and six with four – are set to launch in Q2 of 2020.
Elsewhere, a 30-metre ozone-based swimming pool acts as a focal point and is one of many sustainability initiatives incorporated in the property. These include solar technology for water heating in guestrooms, planting endemic flora within the hotel landscaping, incorporating recycled materials into the resort’s décor and reusing water for irrigation and cleaning.
The F&B offering includes all-day dining restaurant Horizon, which celebrates the island’s exotic blended cuisine with dishes from Europe, China, India and Africa, and poolside bar Karokan, serving tropical beverages, beers and wines throughout the day.
“We are excited to add this new resort in Mauritius to our luxury Anantara portfolio,” comments Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels, parent company of Anantara. “This represents an important strategic expansion in Anantara’s footprint which will build on the strength the brand already has in the Indian Ocean.”
