Anantara Angkor gets redesign

Anantara Angkor Resort has unveiled its new presidential suites, the Henri Mouhot and Anantara Explorer, following an extensive renovation transforming the 39-key boutique property into an all-suite retreat.

Created by Thai studio Abacus Design, the suites’ interiors are inspired by the discovery of Siem Reap’s Angkor Wat by western explorers during the 19th century.

The 235m2 two-bedroom Henri Mouhot Suite pays tribute to the French naturalist and explorer who alerted the West to the ruins of Angkor, capital of the ancient Khmer civilisation of Cambodia. Meanwhile, the one-bedroom Anantara Explorer suite offers 178m2 of living space inspired by intrepid explorer Jim Thompson, founder of Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company.

In both suites, bold colours, silk, and fabrics from Thompson’s Leo De Janeiro collection unfold. The ruby coloured Pomare-designed wallcoverings, and intricate Chinese lacquered Ming Ming headboard decoration feature alongside seat covers in pewter-coloured Marquise-cut velvet fabric, while floral motifs adorn traditional Asian ceramics.

In the Henri Mouhot Suite, a sandstone relief reflects the ruins of Angkor amidst a colonial backdrop of tongue and groove ceilings. Over in the Anantara Explorer suite, wall panelling with a rectangular motive is reminiscent of a feature in the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok, separating the master bedroom and lounge.

With ample indoor and outdoor living spaces, the suites comprise a lounge and bar area with a wine humidor; two dining areas; marble bathrooms with double vanity, a bathtub and oversized rain shower; dressing room; a private spa room with a Jacuzzi bath tub, massage areas; and a plunge pool in an enclosed private garden.

Additional facilities at Anantara Angkor Resort include complimentary airport transfers, an experience butler service, and complimentary drinks in a traditional courtyard that evokes Angkor’s heritage. The Henri Mouhot and Anantara Explorer suites also come with a laundry service, in-suite spa treatments, and a daily hour-long therapy at the resort’s spa.

Anantara currently operates over 35 properties in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and the UAE, and has plans to expand its portfolio across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
