AHEAD, the Awards for Hospitality Experience and Design, has revealed its Asia 2019 winners as part of a ceremony held at the Andaz Hotel, Singapore. Chinese hotels dominated proceedings, with Tsingpu Yangzhou Retreat and The Middle House, Shanghai taking two awards apiece, but the night’s big winner was Amanyangyun Shanghai, which received four awards in total including the prestigious AHEAD Asia Ultimate Winner. Other recipients included Eaton HK, Hong Kong for its achievements in the Renovation & Restoration category; Wild Coast Tented Lodge in Yala, Sri Lanka in the Resort prize, and Guntû – a waterborne reinvention of the Japanese ryokan – which was named winner of the newly introduced Transport category.
AHEAD Awards founder Matt Turner commented: “We were delighted to celebrate the best new hotels from across the Asia-Pacific region at AHEAD Asia 2019. Our winners offered a reflection of the region’s rich cultural history and dynamic modernity. We were particularly honoured to acknowledge the legacy of architect Kerry Hill who passed away in 2018 with several awards for his final project – Amanyangyun Shanghai.”
