Alila Hotels & Resorts to transform Rajasthan fort into boutique resort

The Alila Fort Bishangarh will become the Asian hotelier’s third property in India, joining the Alila Diwa, Goa, and Alila Bangalore to further strengthen the group’s national portfolio.

Located in the hills of the Aravalli Mountain range, the fort has been owned by the ruling Maharaja’s family since the 14th century. Thought to be the only one of its kind to be converted into a heritage resort, it is a unique example of Jaipur Gharana architecture influenced by both the Mughals and the British.

As part of the transformation, the resort will undergo an ecological restoration focusing on preserving the grandeur of the original fort with its two-metre-thick walls and original battlements and turrets, whilst sensitively developing new residential areas. A completely new structure being created above and outside the old fort will house five different styles of royal suites and lavish public areas.

Each of the 59 suites will offer spectacular 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. The resort will also boast two speciality restaurants, a spa, an all-day coffee lounge, a bar and cigar room, wine cellar and library. Other public areas will comprise a royal banquet hall and dining room, conference and meeting rooms, an open-air terrace and banquet lawns.

As befitting its royal heritage, the hotel also has its own landholdings, including the charming village of Bishangarh.
Alila plans to continue developing its international portfolio with projects in Malaysia, China, India, Indonesia, Indochina and Oman.
